Be spoilt on this fascinating private tour of local wine and produce in the beautiful Hunter Valley. The Hunter is just over a two hour drive north west of Sydney and is steeped by gorgeous groves and rolling vineyards behind a backdrop of craggy mountains.
We will be given special access and a-behind-the- scenes tour of the entire winemaking process in smaller family run wineries and vineyards. This hands on approach will take us through the wine making process and what it’s like to be a working viticulturalist.
On this fun day we will have an opportunity to stroll amongst a vineyard, and season and weather permitting, pick and taste a few different varieties of grapes straight from the vine.
We will get up and close to wine making equipment and be invited to drink straight from the wine tanks - or if we’re there at the right time of year, directly from the oak barrel.
Our tour also includes visiting a working olive estate and sampling some of the Hunter’s finest olives, tapenades, relishes and cheeses – matching them to wine of course. And lunch will be served at one of the Hunter Valley’s finest estates - this is a real treat and a culinary showcase for our guests!
Our day commences from your Sydney hotel at 7:30am before driving over the Harbour Bridge and through Sydney’s wealthy upper north shore.
Around 9am we will stop for a lovely morning tea/ coffee break with accompanying cookies and cakes, overlooking the magnificent Hawkesbury River.
The Hunter is world famous for its excellent semillon and shiraz, but we will also try numerous varieties including chardonnay, verdelho, traminer, pinot noir and sangiovese.
Our wine tasting in the Hunter will commence mid-morning in the Mount View region with the sampling of wines from an award winning winery. We invite you to sample outstanding wine of distinctive character that’s only made in small quantities and generally available only through their cellar door.
We will then drive through the Lower Hunter for a gourmet meal at one of the icon addresses of the region. You are free to wander their impressive grounds from where they source much of their produce. This is yet another highlight and lunch will be served around midday with an accompanying glass of local wine.
Walking off lunch will be made easy with a pleasant stroll through a gorgeous vineyard and working winery. Perhaps we will be lucky enough to meet the winemaker himself! Or have the chance to drink straight from an aged oak barrel. Our private wine tasting will overlook the magnificent Brokenback Ranges from a sunny verandah.
Our final part of the afternoon is at an olive grove where we’re given an insight into olive production. We will sample their tapenades, relishes and olive oils, and match their wine to some scrumptious local cheese. This will keep us in high spirits for our trip back to Sydney, returning at your hotel around 6/630pm.
If your accommodation is in the Hunter Valley the tour will commence from your hotel at 10am and conclude around 4pm. This tour won’t include a morning tea/ coffee break. Depending on the time of the year the wineries we visit may vary. All wineries selected are small family made productions with excellent wine.
